Finally, the country’s political landscape is gradually taking a proper shape; the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed Saturday, December 09 as its preferred date for the party’s convention.

Although, the party’s governors, at the meeting held at the Enugu Government House, Enugu - presided over by the Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose who is also the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, could not agree on a consensus candidate to emerge as the National Chairman, it, however, succeeded in extracting a commitment from the aspirants to support whoever finally emerges as the party’s chairman at the slated convention.

The party’s chairmanship aspirants are former Minister of Special Duties, Taoheed Adedoja, former Minister of Education, Tunde Adeniran, former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Bode George and a former acting National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus.

Others include former governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel, a former PDP governorship candidate in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje and Chief Raymond Dokpesi.

One thing that could be said of the party is that its minders have put in so much effort to resuscitate and stabilize the party.

But then, the minders need to keep in view the possibility of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 General Elections, most especially, the Presidential Election, for their efforts to be meaningful.

The ruling party’s lacklustre performance, particularly at the Federal Level, has called for the necessity of a change in government at the center should there be a willing opposition party to throw down the gauntlet.

While it may be difficult -for obvious reasons - for the PDP governors and the party leaders, who met in Enugu, to arrive at a consensus candidate, opinion of political observers could be of help.

The party’s chairmanship aspirants could be divided into two groups, to wit:- the non-candidates and the real candidates.

The non-candidates are former Minister of Special Duties, Taoheed Adedoja, former Minister of Education, Tunde Adeniran, former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Bode George and former PDP governorship candidate in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje.

The candidates are former acting National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, former governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel and Chief Raymond Dokpesi.

Of the three candidates, it is safe to move Secondus and Dokpesi forward, with Dokpesi emerging as the National Chairman.

It is a fact that the ruling APC and its standard-bearer during the 2015 Presidential Election, Muhammadu Buhari did not defeat the PDP and its candidate, former President Goodluck Jonathan at that election.

Jonathan had a very good case against the Professor Attahiru Jega-led Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released election result and the declared winner of the ‘said’ election, Buhari but chose not to pursue the matter to the Court of Law for obvious reasons.

The PDP can still work hard to unseat the ruling APC if it diligently elect the right candidate as National Chairman on Saturday, December 09, once that hurdle is crossed then remains the election of a formidable candidate as its Presidential Candidate.

Governance is not about feathering one’s own nest alone but it is all about giving succor to the governed; that is the masses.

Nigerians need a government that is humane, a spirit the ruling APC lacks, especially, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu gang.

It is a fact that key members of the gang: Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed; Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola and Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, do not think twice before they talk, they are yet to fully grasp the import of being in government, and have even been consistently conceit in their ignorance, talking out of turn almost all the time.

The treatment of the former Minister of petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke by this administration has been very interesting, and worthy of note.

Likewise is the one being meted out to the former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

The raging issue of the seized personal assets of embattled former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Force, Abdulrasheed Maina and the alleged disappearance of assets seized by the Maina-led Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms which were kept in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has thrown the much needed light on the way and manner the EFCC has been going about the discharge of its anti-graft campaign.

And such an untoward act has been going on since the inception of the commission as established by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who appointed Nuhu Ribadu as the commission’s chairman.

The EFCC has become a puppet organization in the hands of politicians in power who serve as its ventriloquist.

This Maina matter has once again brought to fore the mockery called ‘War Against Corruption’ by this present administration.

It has, also, shown where, most likely, the monies and assets which the court of law has confiscated from Alison-Madueke would go.

And it has further shown what one should expect would happen to the monies and the properties of Dame Jonathan seized by the EFCC, should this ruling party continue in government.

Concerning, Alison-Madueke, the woman has not done anything out of the ordinary, should one consider the way and manner past leaders of the country have been handling the country’s treasury since its independence in 1960.

Even with all the allegations leveled against her, it is a fact that her conduct has not surpassed those of other public servants that have occupied that same position before her.

Dame Jonathan’s case is a bit different, although, she is being over tormented; because when her husband was in power she coveted a landed property of the erstwhile First Lady, Turai Umaru Yar’Adua, which was located in a choice area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Turai too was never innocent, the treatment could be – a kind of divine retribution- that stemmed from the way she held the country to ransom, delaying the transition of power to then Acting President Goodluck Jonathan.
